OUR CULTURE
LOVE AND REDEMPTION: At the core of everything is this truth: we are loved by God. Period. Even when we mess up. Even when we don't love him back. God reaches out to us when we need Him most (which, coincidentally, is like - always).
TRADITIONAL: We pursue God with excellence in all things, and our music reflects that in the tradition of our Christian forefathers. This creates a unique environment where hearing God's Word is easy and responding to it is natural.
INDEPENDENT AND FUNDAMENTAL: You'll see in our teaching times, we are not beholden to any large denomination. At the same time, the lessons will be familiar to those who have been exposed to the fundamental truths of the Word of God.
KING JAMES VERSION: We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the verbally and plenary inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible and God-breathed, and therefore are the perfect and final authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the complete and Divine revelation of God to man. The Scriptures shall be interpreted according to their normal grammatical-historical meaning. We believe that The King James Version (Authorized Version 1611) of the Bible is the accurately preserved, authoritative and true Word of God in the English language, and shall be the official translation used by the Church.
OUR PURPOSE
1. To inspire people to develop a heart for God.
Jeremiah 24:7 And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and 1 will be their God...
2. To instruct people from God's Word.
II Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
3. To involve people in a culturally sensitive and Biblically correct ministry.
Romans 10:72 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him,
4. To include people into a loving church family.
I Corinthians 12:12-14 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.14 For the body is not one member, but many.
5. To impact Lake Villa and the world with the gospel of Christ.
Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
OUR DOCTRINE
-
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, the written record of His supernatural revelation of Himself to man, absolute in its authority, complete in its revelation, final in its content and without error.
-
We believe that The Godhead exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit and these are one God.
-
We believe in the true deity and humanity of Jesus Christ, His miraculous birth – conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, His sinless life, His atonement for the sins of the world by His death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension into Heaven, His perpetual intercession in behalf of the saints, and His personal, bodily and visible return to earth.
-
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third Member of the Godhead; that He is a divine person equal with the Father and the Son; that His ministry is to uplift and glorify Christ; to convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment and to regenerate, indwell, enlighten, empower and comfort the saved; that the evidence of His presence in the life of the believer is the fruit of the Spirit.
-
We believe that all men by nature and by choice are sinners and therefore are lost and depraved; that salvation is by grace, a free gift of God and is only obtained through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; that the reception of salvation is characterized by a godly sorrow for sin and a transformed life.
-
We believe that the plan of God for this age is to evangelize the world through the establishing of New Testament local churches; that the ordinances of the local church are two: The Lord’s Supper and Baptism by immersion; that the church is to be separated from the state as well as all ecumenical groups and unequal yokes.
-
We believe in the imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ, the pretribulational rapture of the saints, the Judgment Seat of Christ, the great tribulation followed by the millennial reign of Christ, the Great White Throne Judgment and the creation of the new Heaven and the new earth.
-
We believe in the personality of Satan; the bodily resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust; the eternal conscious punishment of the lost in Hell and the eternal joy of the saved in Heaven.
OUR COVENANT
Having been led by the Holy Spirit of God to accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, through whose shed blood alone we are redeemed, and believing we should be buried with Him in baptism, we as members of Lakeland Baptist Church, do now most solemnly enter into covenant with God and with one another.
We solemnly promise that, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, we shall love one another as becomes brethren, watch for one another’s welfare and bear one another’s burdens, thus fulfilling the law of Christ; that we will remember one another in prayer, comforting one another in sickness and distress, being slow to take offense and striving for immediate reconciliation.
We solemnly promise that we will not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, but will regularly attend services of worship unless providentially hindered; that we will regularly give of our substance as the Lord prospers us for the support of the church and for the spread of the Gospel throughout the world; that we will subscribe to the doctrines of the church, its ordinances and discipline and pray and labor together for the salvation of souls.
We solemnly promise to maintain daily devotion, to search the Scriptures, “rightly dividing the Word of truth;” to train our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord; to walk circumspectly in the world, being just in our dealings, faithful in our engagement and exemplary in our deportment, looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ.
